Autobiography of Artist

Tukufu Malik Mtawa

Born August 19, 1957, the 4th of 5 children, primarily raised in the City of Minneapolis, like a number of African American males my family was dysfunctional to a degree.  And like most young males my life could have been lived either way. I choose for the most part to live my life from one extreme to the other.

For the first 37 years of my life I lived it like I was the master of all that surrounded me. I was controlled by my passions and desires, that was all that mattered to me…

In August of 1994, I came to learn that we all consist more than just a physical & mental being. I learned that we were created with a spiritual element as well. As I addressed my spirituality I came to find that my earlier years were void of any type of faith and or true belief because I could never identify with the concept that the Son of God did not resemble me.

In my state of incarceration I was afforded the time to actually study theology where I was able to make certain determinations based on the Word that allowed me to surmise through interpretation that permitted me to create the image of Jesus that you see.
